There were two mummies found in a cave. The mummies are called the Lemon Grove mummies. One is a 1 year old and the other is a 15 year old. Two teenagers went to Chihuahua, Mexico to find mummies. They found the two mummies and stole them and took them to California. There, they put the bodies in their friend's garage in Lemon Grove, California.
Preserved
The cave that the mummies were found in had cold, dry air. The dry air made the body dehydrate causing the bacteria to die from lack of water. Since the bacteria was dead, the bodies did not decay. That is why the two bodies did not decay and stayed preserved.
The mummies were well preserved. The hair on the 15 year old remained on the head, and the baby's ears and nose are still visible. On skeletons, noses and ears are replaced by holes. Since they were preserved, there is a better image of the bodies. Scientists think that the mummies were preserved accidentally. Because they are in a position where it looks like they are huddling together, scientists think they died in their sleep. About the Mummies |
Scientists know they were at the age of 1 and 15 years at death. The mummies were found in a garage in Lemon Grove, California. Also, using dating methods, scientists found out that the mummies were 800 years old. Scientists strongly believe that the Mexican Indian's burial ground is in Chihuahua, Mexico and that the mummies were also Mexican Indian. No objects were found near the bodies. These two mummies revealed many secrets about their own kind.
